Description:  Dogwood Harbor is a rendering of the active harbor during oyster season in Tilghman, MD. I changed the houses in the background to give the picture a humbler, small town feel. I also wanted the workboats to be the main focus to the observer.

The source photo was taken in January 2024 during one of my trips to Tilghman Island. Many of the boats were in the slips when they would normally be out on the Chesapeake Bay oystering. It was a downtime for the economy when the usual buyers were not able to sell the oysters even at reduced prices.

This piece was done using my typical process at the time. I traced the source photo onto a basswood board in preparation for burning. After completing the wood burning, I added color using colored pencils. The picture was sealed with at least two coats of polyurethane sprayed onto the front and back of the board.
