Description: One Mother’s Day my son sent me a rose bush as his gift. I planted it in my garden and it has bloomed every year since then just around Mother’s Day. Although the bush is in the sun primarily, because it is close to my crepe myrtle tree, at a certain time of the day part of the bush is in shadow. This bloom was so big and perfectly formed that I wanted to capture it creatively to emphasize the shady image it presented. Also, since roses are often difficult to render well, especially when fully opened, this was also a study exercise. I was happy with the result because it presented a very different feel than what I usually achieve when painting roses and was not constrained by presenting it in its local color.
