Kimberly Nesci

Kimberly Nesci

Kimberly spent her childhood in rural St. Mary’s County, exploring the woods and tributaries of the Chesapeake Bay. Those interactions with the natural world cultivated in her a love of and fascination with the environment and its inhabitants. Following obtaining a degree in Entomology from the University of Maryland, Kimberly has been a federal employee, working in pesticide regulation and policy, since 1999.

In her art, Kimberly works with encaustic wax, an ancient painting technique, to create representational and abstracted works. In both subject matter and medium, her work showcases nature: encaustics are natural products made from beeswax, damar resin, and pigment. Kimberly loves the translucency and texture of encaustic wax and the random way in which this unique material behaves.
