Here are some of the benefits of practicing chair yoga:

  • Helps with increased flexibility. ability to bend, twist, stretch, and move more freely in ever day activities   It is a benefit for over all good health.
  • Using your muscles to complete yoga poses builds strength. More strength can lead to better balance.
  • Improved proprioception. Doing yoga generally means moving smoothly from one pose to another.
  • Teaches students to breathe deeply.
  • Helps calm the mind.

The purpose of using the chair:

The chair serves as a stabilizing apparatus to enhance movement and provide reinforcement to those who might not have the physical capabilities, or mental comfort, to perform traditional yoga.

Marie Davis has been practicing yoga for more than eighteen years and teaching for three years.  At the age of 75 Marie decided to deepen her understanding of yoga philosophy and poses by becoming a certified yoga instructor.  As a result, Marie has become more aware of the benefits of daily yoga practice. Marie will approach this practice by encouraging students to breathe deeply, be calm, and realize the overall benefits of the practice.

 

Practice will be held on Mondays at OCC from 9:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m. Starting February 14th
