Bridging Difference: Learning from the Lives of Others

What can life histories teach us about bridging difference? In her latest book, Moving from the Margins: Life Histories on Transforming the Study of Racism, Margaret Andersen presents autobiographical narratives by thirteen accomplished sociologists, including herself, who grew up in different racial, ethnic, gender, and social class backgrounds. What do these life histories teach us about understanding difference and how people succeed even against the odds? What can these life histories teach us about overcoming difference and disadvantage—in our communities and in our society at large? Join us for this presentation and discussion with Oxford resident Maggie Andersen, Edward F. and Elizabeth Rosenberg Professor Emerita at the University of Delaware.
