Laura McGowan
I’m an oil painter, living and working on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. I’m inspired by the land, bay and sea around me, and I strive to capture those magical moments created by a fleeting juxtaposition of light and atmosphere. I paint en plein air and in the studio, preferring to capture the image I have in mind in one or two sessions, while the paint is still wet, but sometimes it takes much longer to achieve my vision. I’ve been an artist all my life, and have spent the last 9 years doing my art full time. I have my work in regional galleries, and participate in art shows and festivals throughout the mid-Atlantic. I’ve won several awards in shows and competitions, including the Oxford Fine Arts Show and the VESLT Paint the Shore plein air event.
