Mary Sue Traynelis

Mary Sue Traynelis learned to create Woodsaics© after her husband, Bob, showed her how he created a unique art form out of the many bins of small ¾” scraps of wood left over from other wood art.

Everyone knows about mosaics. Woodsaics are “mosaics” made from natural woods, none painted nor dyed. Woodsaics are made from hundreds of different woods. Tan, white, gray, yellow, purple, black, brown, beige, green, blue and thousands of variations are found in natural wood. Wood also has stripes, wavy and variegated patterns. They allow images of all kinds come to life.

An image may have 2000-6000 individual tessera (a single piece in a mosaic). Without any formal training, Bob helped me explore my artistic side and the joy I find in looking for and finding beautiful wood.
