Stephen Walker
When Stephen Walker moved to Easton in 2018, after retiring from his art teaching career in Montgomery County, MD, he discovered immediately that Talbot County’s thriving art community was a perfect fit.
With a Masters Degree in sculpture and drawing, and Bachelors Degree in Art Education, Stephen continues to teach— launching both sculpture and figure drawing workshops at the Academy Art Museum.
Compared to many local artists, Stephen is relatively new to oil painting and considers his evolving painting style to be “rough impressionism.” He seeks out imagery that incorporates the things he loves like fishing, boating and the graphic simplicity of a field or a shadow on a building. His art is personal and combines what’s both meaningful and soulful.
Stephen has been enjoying recognition along the way. His oil painting “Bay Life” was purchased by the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum after its year-long display at their “Changing Chesapeake” exhibit. His work is also hanging at Spiralis/Zebra Galleries in downtown Easton and he is a member of The Working Artists Forum and St. Michaels Art League.
Finding time to volunteer has been important to Stephen. He has designed and constructed picket fences for Oxford Community Center’s charity auctions; designed and constructed theater sets for the Tred Avon Players; and was the featured artist for Festival of Trees in 2023 which benefits The Friends of Hospice, Talbot County.
